How To Design A Landscape
For in-depth landscaping projects, it is often necessary to hire a professional landscape architect. Many cities, towns, counties, industrial clients and commercial clients hire these architects to make the most of their exterior space. You can see examples of landscaping done by a professional everywhere from the outside of the shopping mall to your local municipal building. City parks are also great places to view professional landscaping as they often have strategically placed trees and flowers, as well as benches, play areas and other structures. However for small to medium residential projects, you can learn how to design a landscape on your own.
For example, take a look at the outside of your house from the point of view of passerby. How does it look to you? Is the exterior environment haphazard or attractively organized? The way your exterior looks can add value to your home in some cases, not to mention make it better looking and a place where you want to spend time. In the front, you should have some kind of porch light to welcome night time guests or to light your way when coming home after dark. There are many different styles and types of porch light including energy efficient solar lighting.
There should also be some kind of plant life outside in your front yard, not including the grass on your lawn. Every yard can use a majestic tree (or more than one.) Trees produce oxygen, nuts and/or fruits, provide shade and are a beautiful part of the natural world. If you are building a home, you can plant baby trees in the locations of your choice and watch them grow over the years. Flowers are also important, some attract hummingbirds and butterflies. You can go for container gardening or create an in-ground front yard floral garden.
The backyard is just as important. This is where social gatherings and summer fun take place. Backyards allow even more room for creativity than front yards. To learn more about how to design a landscape on your own, try looking through some informative books on the subject. There are many titles out there, and a couple of them include: The Black & Decker Complete Guide to Landscape Construction: 60 Step-by-step Projects for Creating a Perfect Landscape by Editors of Creative Publishing and The Landscape Makeover Book: How to Bring New Life to An Old Yard by Sara Jane von Trapp.
